Brig, Wallis. Brig and Naters in the Swiss Alps, the home
town of myself and Ralf Brunner, the two authors of the TIFFany image processor. Not the
prettiest picture because most of the time the low altitudes are in a haze, but at about
1000m above sea level (200m above the valley level) you get a perfect, almost unlimited
visibility. December 1994 |

Brig, Wallis, flooded. A major flood destroyed a big part of
Brig in September 1993. A usually small and peaceful torrent changed into a dangerous
stream carrying hundreds of tons of debris (an average of five cube meters per second,
about as much as usually in a year). It took 30,000 construction truck loads to remove the
biggest part of the dirt; the damage was close to SFr 1 billion, 2 people were killed.
This picture was taken 4 days after the flood after you didn't need a raft to get to town.

Biel, Wallis. A peaceful village in the Swiss mountains, in
the Furka Alps towards the Furka and Grimsel Pass. This part of the valley is a famous
target for many cross-country skiers as the grades are not steep enough for downhill
skiing. Nikon 601, 24-50, Agfa Optima 125. December 1994 |

Reckingen, Wallis. A bridge in Reckingen, VS, Switzerland in
the cold 1994/95 winter. The bridge is indeed very old, probably older than the US. A
train line can be seen right at the left end of the bridge. Nikon 601 24-50 on Agfa Optima

Mund, Wallis, some 14km away from Naters, my home town, on a
wonderful afternoon. Just make sure you wear enough warm clothes in weather like this!
That day it was close to -40C (-40F). Nikon 601, Agfacolor 100. January 1994

Another snowed-in landscape. This picture was taken close to
the one above. The visible road is accessible only by 4WD cars, and even then only to the
most fearless drivers. Thus, it's a paradise for kids who go there sledding. Nikon 601,
Agfacolor 100. January 1994 |

Sunset on snow. Landscape in the Furka Alps, close to
Muenster, as taken in January 1992. T90, with 20-35L on Agfacolor 100. December 1991

The Cheesy Matterhorn. An old shot of the Matterhorn, some
50 minutes from our home town (well depends who is driving :-)). This is a PCD scan off an
old slide, thus the quality is not excellent. T90, 35-70, Agfachrome CT100. Probably
